Sunday was the annual Bark in the Park event at the Chesapeake, VA city park. This event is huge! Over 150 tents of animal rescues and dog related vendors set up for an all day doggy party. They have costume contests, demonstrations, food, raffles, everything really. I went as a volunteer with Adopt A Spot Dalmatian Rescue and Levi tagged along for a day out.
First off, for October, it was HOT. But I can’t complain since last year it rained the entire day. Levi gave me an arm workout for sure, as he still needs a bit of work on the leash. But he met everyone that came up to him like a gentleman and he was polite to all the other dogs. Our tent was right next to a woman who makes her own homemade dog treats, dog ice cream, and dog cakes, which Levi thought was just awesome. Any morsel that fell to the ground he was sure to clean up for them. He even had a vanilla doggy ice cream, which he devoured.
You see everything at these sorts of events: Enormous dogs, dogs in costumes, dogs with dyed hair, dogs in strollers. Pure breeds, service dogs, mutts. You name it, I saw it.
The drive home was a quiet one, as Levi was tuckered out! He came home and slept the rest of the evening, only getting up to eat his dinner. My permanent fur children were a bit jealous that Levi got to have a day out, but I made sure to give them extra love while Levi was asleep. I think all is forgiven.
